BOYCIE

RACING NAME: Efceerebel
EARMARK: YLU1
COLOUR: Black
DATE OF BIRTH: September 2017

Boycie arrived on Thursday 2nd July 2020
Had his last race at Belle Vue in August 2019. He’d run 25 races in total.

WENT TO HIS NEW HOME ON SATURDAY 15th August 2020
where we hoped he would have a long and happy life with his new family.

Please DONATE towards Boycie’s veterinary costs to help us give him as happier and pain free life as we can. He was only 2 years old when he developed the osteosarcoma.

Sadly Boycie had only been with his new family 6 days when he badly hurt his leg while playing with a soft toy on the lawn. He was given medication to ease the pain that night and his owner took him to their vet in Carlisle first thing on the Saturday morning. X-rays were taken of his leg and chest as suspected osteosarcoma was seen. His new owner was given the choice of amputation or euthanasia. Having phoned us for advice we offered to bring Boycie back into RGSL so we could make the decision for them as he was their first dog. They collected him from their vet in Carlisle and brought him to us where we were waiting with the animal ambulance to take him straight to ours.

All his x-rays and medical notes were sent to Highgate Veterinary Clinic where they were ready for him. It was a sad moment on that Saturday 22nd August 2020 for everyone, his family handing him over to us and saying goodbye thinking it was going to be the last they saw of him, and for us to see him as he was. Once in Highgate Veterinary Clinic in Kendal and the decision was made to amputate the leg as soon as possible.
On Monday 24th August 2020 at 2.45pm. the highly skilled team at Highgate led by Marcelle Cassar removed his leg in a 3 hour operation. Less than 24 hours later the remarkable Boycie was hopping around on 3 legs and wagging his tail. The following day Claire who is one of our volunteers, and a veterinary nurse at Highgate took Boycie home with her for his aftercare until his stitches were removed and he was able to go back to his family on a long-term foster arrangement. This arrangement means he can live with his family as theirs, but RGSL will pay the veterinary costs.
