Hedge in paddock

As a result of the person who reported us to the Lake District National Park Planning Board for mowing the paddock and putting a picnic table in the corner we’ve had to apply for planning permission to change the area from agricultural land to a garden and we had to plant a 44 metre long hedge along the side adjoining our field to make it look ‘nicer’. When Stuart bought the property in 1987 the orchard, what we now call the paddock, was sold to him as garden along with the piece by the side of the underpass, which held our friend’s boat, and its been treated as such these past 35 years. We cleared the orchard, mowed it and put a table in the corner for the youngsters with learning difficulties from 2 local schools who regularly come to visit the dogs at the centre. We did this so they could safely walk the dogs around it, play with the dogs and have somewhere to sit.
May we thank the kind person who donated the cost of the planning permission, the Lake District National Park Planning Board for their support and understanding over this person’s unkind and unnecessary action. We are also very grateful for the generous donation of sufficient Scottish Pine saplings to cover the 44 metre stretch that Clive, George and Stuart planted, and of which are being watered twice a day during this dry spell. We did start laying membrane on the ground around them, but stopped because it was easier to water them without it. Once we’ve had a good shower or two of rain the remaining membrane will be lain. Stuart reported tonight after the evening water that well over 60% are beginning to show new growth.
